Vina Alicia "Brote Negro" Malbec – rare mutation, captivating character
Vina Alicia "Brote Negro" Malbec is the result of an exceptionally rare natural phenomenon that occurs only in a very old Malbec vineyard on the Viña Alicia estate. This special mutation of the vines is visible already in the vineyard: from budburst right through to ripening, the shoots remain almost black, giving the wine a distinctive origin and character.
Colour, aroma and flavour in harmony
The wine displays a deep, dense purple colour that immediately signals its concentration in the glass. On the nose it is intense and almost perfumed, with rich blackberry and wild berry notes, violet florality and a sweetness reminiscent of liquorice. In the background, subtle minerality appears, elegantly complementing the fruit-driven aromas.
The palate is just as powerful as the bouquet: full-bodied, layered and remarkably flavourful. Black berries, violet and sweet-spice, liquorice-like notes return on the tongue, supported by a long, persistent finish. Nuances of vanilla, dried fruits and spice from oak ageing integrate smoothly into the structure without overpowering the varietal character.
Body and structure
"Brote Negro" Malbec is a big, concentrated wine with a dense yet well-integrated tannin structure. Fresh, balanced acidity keeps the wine lively, so despite its power it remains vibrant and approachable. This structure makes it ideal for unhurried, contemplative tasting and for occasions when you want to open something truly distinctive and rare.
Serving suggestions and food pairing
The wine shows its best at 16–18 °C, served in a large red wine glass, allowing its complex aromas and flavours to fully unfold. It pairs well with rich, flavourful dishes such as grilled or roasted red meats, spiced beef or lamb, and aged hard cheeses.
