Rutini Trumpeter Merlot – Argentine red wine from Tupungato
Rutini Trumpeter Merlot comes from Tupungato, one of the standout subregions of Argentina’s Mendoza wine area. Thanks to the high-altitude vineyards and significant day–night temperature swings, the grapes ripen slowly and evenly, resulting in concentrated aromas and a balanced acidity. This Merlot combines the variety’s natural softness with the clearly defined character of its mountain terroir.
Colour, aroma and flavour
The wine has a deep ruby-red colour with fine purple reflections that give it a youthful appearance. On the nose, intense, jammy black and red berry fruits – mainly cherry and plum – unfold, complemented by subtle tobacco and restrained vanilla notes. These aromas come together harmoniously without weighing the wine down.
On the palate it is round and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and well-integrated acidity. Flavours of ripe plum, dark berry fruit and gentle spiciness dominate, creating a warm, approachable overall impression. The finish is medium in length, clean and fruit-driven.
Serving suggestions and food pairing
Rutini Trumpeter Merlot is an ideal choice for everyday dinners and relaxed gatherings with friends when you want a smooth, well-balanced red wine. It pairs particularly well with grilled meats, roast dishes, mild cheeses and lightly seasoned stews or ragouts. Thanks to its medium body and silky tannins, it does not overpower the food, but rather complements and enhances it.
It is best enjoyed at 16–18 °C to allow its fruitiness and spicy notes to fully open up. After opening, a short period of aeration can further round the wine, highlighting its softness and aromatic complexity.
Who is it for?
This Merlot is a good option for those who enjoy fruity yet characterful red wines without seeking something overly heavy or robust. Its friendly, approachable style makes it easy to appreciate for newcomers to wine, while its elegant structure still offers plenty of interest for more experienced wine lovers.
