Mauricio Lorca Gran Petit Verdot – Characterful Argentine red
Mauricio Lorca Gran Petit Verdot is a 100% Petit Verdot, a bold and well-structured red wine from Mendoza’s world‑renowned wine region, specifically the cooler, higher‑altitude sites of the Uco Valley (Los Árboles, Vista Flores). The combination of terroir and careful cellar work gives this wine its deep colour, concentrated aromas and long, persistent finish.
Aroma and flavour profile
On the nose, floral and spicy notes unfold: peony, lily and delicate toasted vanilla highlighted by barrel ageing. On the palate, ripe plum and blackberry flavours dominate, while the finish brings tangy black berries and a firm, chewy structure.
Eighteen months of ageing in new French oak barrels adds complex layers: firm yet well‑integrated tannins, subtle wood and chocolate tones, along with gentle tobacco and earthy notes that complement the fruit. The wine is full‑bodied and concentrated yet well balanced, revealing its best when sipped slowly and given time to breathe.
Serving suggestions
This Petit Verdot is an excellent choice alongside rich, flavourful dishes. It pairs well with roasted or grilled red meats, spiced beef and lamb, game dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18 °C and consider decanting in advance to soften the structure and allow the aromas to fully open.
Cellaring potential
Thanks to its firm tannins and barrel ageing, Mauricio Lorca Gran Petit Verdot also has good potential for bottle ageing. Under proper storage conditions, it can gain further finesse over the years, with the fruity and spicy notes integrating even more and the structure becoming rounder.
Recommended for wine lovers who enjoy characterful, full‑bodied yet detailed and complex red wines, and who are curious to explore the distinctive style of Argentina’s Uco Valley through a varietal Petit Verdot.
